"It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all... For if you sit down and count the cost, well, there's no profit at all." The first line is a famous quotation and an Irish band called Del Amitri turned it into a song and they added the second line. So, is it true?
I honestly do not know what the fuss is about romance. Kill me if you must but do it after I have asked my question. What is romantic love rather than a hyperbole of emotions that will fade after the next few minutes? People who are in love get starry-eyed when they meet that somebody but when the rose-colored glass gets broken, they are left with a stark realization of the truth. It was a mirage. Love and romance is the essence of mind over matter. If you will it, you get it. Get it?
Say you define yourself as in love at the moment. You will do anything in your power to justify your feeling. Things will look better, days brighter, you will look like you've had the best shower of your life--and smell it too. The Bhuddist monks think they can prove the immense power of the mind by starving themselves for days on end by meditating. What they don't know is that they only need to be in love and they've got proof. What was ugly before now looks beautiful. The shady characters now have color. All because people want it to be that way.
Why do I say this is all about mind? Why not? What's the heart got to do with it anyways? It's a pumping machine. Your hypothalamus is in your brain. Now I'm no medical science expert but I think some people are just more predisposed to hypothalamus malfunction. That explains polygamy, depression and whatnot.
What is love but a big ball of garbage designed by Hallmark to make profit on Valentine's day. Ask people how they define love and they can't put two articulate words together. Suddenly, they have lost all vocabulary and turn to the one word that will disguise their problem: Indescribable. My arse.
I don't care for love, to tell the truth. I would much rather have respect and be respected. I would much rather have loyalty and commitment. I would much rather have honest friendship. All that will turn to one big ball of something when we turn 80 and can't say those three words that too many people wish they would hear but never actually say. Love, it fades. Friendship, that's forever.
P.S. Admittedly, if you read a Hallmark card, it looks much better to read, "I love you" than "I respect you". So just for the heck of it, much love to all you peeps who disagree with me!
